VMP Covergirl - Michelle Kinzel

This week’s VMP Covergirl is……Michelle Kinzel! 🎉

I first met Michelle through WBN, and one of the things that struck me about her right away was her wonderfully calm, grounded energy. It makes perfect sense that she brings that same presence to her work as a postpartum doula, supporting women and families during such an important season of their lives.

When Michelle joined the 50 Over 50 project, she had just turned 60 and wanted to celebrate the milestone with a portrait session. And after getting to know her, I can tell you there is so much more behind that beautiful smile than you could ever see in a photograph.

She’s a mother, wife, entrepreneur, dedicated friend, woman with a big heart... and someone who appreciates a good glass of wine, which means we had plenty to talk about. 😉

Michelle has lived a LOT of life, and I love her perspective on what comes next: “It is not an end, it is a great beginning.”

Here's what Michelle had to say about this season of her life...

💎 Did you have any older female role models when you were younger?

This such a hard question.  To be honest, most of the women that have been in my life, have not been the best roll models.  Abandoned by my birth mother, physically abused by foster parents, mentally abused by adopted mother, a mother-in-law that was frigid and distant; I have learned what NOT to be like.

Aunt Jane, my first husband's aunt, never had any daughters.  She was a great example of a strong but gentle women.  I felt like I was the daughter she wished for and my children as they were her grandchildren.  Aunt Jane never judged, giving you time to sort it out with her guidance and grace.  When I lose myself, I refocus, and work on my Aunt Jane "vibe".  Aunt Jane was strong and full of wisdom under her quiet, classy presence!

💎 How did you mark turning 50? How did that feel to you?

I turned 60, and thru myself an ERA party!  In review of my ERA's, it was clear, a lot of life happened.  Much, much more to happen in the future.

💎 What advice would you give your younger self?

The opportunities will show themselves.  Don't be blind or afraid.

💎 Do you have any goals or projects you're working on? What dreams do you have for the future?

Longevity.  I would like to become a centenarian.  Live to be past 100.

💎 What is your best advice for other women who are coming up on turning 50? What do you 'know' now?

It is not an end, it is a great beginning.  You put all the hard work in, now enjoy.

💎 What do you most want people to remember about you?

When I scheduled my shoot, I was turning 60.  It was a gift to myself.  Looking at my photos, you might see the smile, the cute outfit... the surface.  But behind it.... a lot of LIFE - an orphan, widow, single parent, mother (2 amazing independent children), loving wife, entrepreneur with a charitable spirit and a dedicated faithful friend.

💎 Why are beautiful photos important to you right now?

The last time I was professionally photographed was for the 8th Anniversary gift for my first husband.  That was in 1991 !!!   I haven't changed at all.  LOL

Congratulations Michelle!
It’s an honor to help you celebrate YOU and your journey and I’m so glad you said YES to yourself! 🎉
